Cleopatra is always a popular costume for adult and child Halloween parties. It is a very easy costume to create at home and while versatile enough for both child and adult, the adult version can be recreated to be very sexy if that is the wish of the wearer.

Creating Your Own Cleopatra Costume In One Afternoon

The basic costume requirements for a Cleopatra costume include a white sheet or long dress, a decorative sash or cloth belt of some sort, gold costume jewelry and a long dark wig with straight hair.

While a white dress is an ideal for your Cleopatra costume, it is possible to visit a thrift store and purchase a white sheet instead. With creative folding, cutting and arranging, a sheet can be worn in a classic Egyptian looking style. If you are unsure, do an online search or look in an encyclopedia or art history book to locate images of the Egyptian culture or Cleopatra herself for an idea of what the dress or sheet should look like.

The scarf or sash worn around the waist should be very decorative, keeping in mind that Cleopatra was extremely wealthy and her clothing would have been made of the finest and most decorative cloth. Whatever you decide to use doesn’t have to be expensive, just decorative.

Finding The Correct Accessories Is The Key To Success

The costume jewelry of Cleopatra’s time was generally made of gold and had images of the serpent in or upon it. Keep this in mind as you try to select the items you will be wearing. Again, a bit of research and a visit to your local thrift store, good wills and party stores should provide many different inexpensive options for the costume jewelry you will be wearing.

Cleopatra wore a jeweled headband around her head and across her forehead. If you are unable to locate something in a thrift store, be sure to pick something up at a party or costume store, as this is a very important part of the overall Cleopatra costume.

The hair is a very important in the overall appearance of the Cleopatra costume. If you have long straight hair, they you need only brush it out straight and put on the headband to accomplish the appearance that Cleopatra was know for wearing in public. However, if your hair is short, long and curly or something else that contrasts with the overall appearance of your Cleopatra costume, it might be in your best interest to purchase an appropriate wig choice from a party store while you are there picking up your headband.

Coming up with a creative Halloween costume these days can be quite difficult. So many people revert back to the classic ideas that have been put into practice for years—a witch, a princess, and an athlete are all common ideas. It can be even more difficult to come up with a creative costume when you are trying to decide on matching costumes for a group of people.

If you think outside of the box, there are so many different options for Halloween costumes! If you are looking for costume ideas for the people in your trick-or-treating group, why not go as Little Bo Peep and a herd of sheep? It is easy to create a Little Bo Peep Costume, and even easier to create a sheep costume.

Creating Little Bo Peep

A Little Bo Peep costume can easily be created with items you have lying around the house. A cute cotton dress covered by a pinafore or an apron is one option. A bonnet and a herding stick will complete the costume! How easy was that?

Sheep Costumes For All

For the rest of the people in your Halloween group, sheep costumes are a great way to compliment the person dressed as Bo Peep. Making your own sheep costumes is not as difficult as you might think.

To begin, purchase a pair of white, long underwear for everyone in your group. Next, purchase pillow batting from a craft store and use a hot glue gun to glue bunches of it all over the long underwear. This creates a wool effect.

In order to create the head and ears, you can purchase a white hat with ear flaps. By cutting the flaps off and re-gluing them on the top of the hat, you have created the ears for your sheep costume.

For the finishing touches, you will simply need a pair of black gloves and a pair of black shoes in order to create the hooves. Use black face paint to blacken the tip of each sheep’s nose, and—voila! Your sheep costume is complete.

Creative Thinking

Coming up with cute Halloween costume ideas is not as difficult as it might seem. By simply thinking creatively and using your resources, you can easily come up with a plethora of creative Halloween costumes for any group of people. Dressing up as Little Bo Peep and a herd of sheep is by no means your only option—but it does have one of the most adorable end results!

It was the era that celebrated the spinning mirrored ball, colorful lighted shows on illuminated dance floors and white leisure suits with black shirts and lots of gold chains on men. John Travolta is remembered for his role as Tony Manero, the disco king that wore platform shoes and a white disco suit. This is the most powerful image of disco costumes today.

Even now, over thirty years later, most of America recognizes the Saturday Night Fever stance with one hand high in the air and the other thrown behind, with a hip thrust out and legs spread slightly apart. The dancing moves with a hand going up and down across the body are all signals of the hot disco nights of the late seventies and early eighties.

Disco And The Famous White Suit Make Disco Costumes For Men Easy To Create

Disco costumes are still very big in the costume industry often rented or bought by people who are attending a party and other function that requires a costume. Travolta’s character and strong wardrobe produced an icon for the costume world, disco is here to stay.

Women’s Disco Costumes Have A Wide Range Of Variety

For women, swirling dresses with off the shoulder necklines were both seductive and subtle. For the braver souls of the disco era, hot pants in bright colored spandex with a stretch spandex top provided enough a fit so tight that the body was most perfectly molded within the clothing. These Lycra catsuits with platform heals and large Afros were a vision to be sure.

Considering that so much of disco was really encased in the images of John Travolta and the Saturday Night Fever movie, a bit of research of the movie itself or watching one of the many spoofs that exist will give you great ideas on a disco costume.

Keep in mind that the female clothes made of such things as leopard skin prints, stretch halter jumpsuits, white clothes that would glow under the different light shows in different clubs and the gold lame blouses and skirts were all popular disco wear and make great costume ideas. Many of the disco clothes that women wore were adaptations from things that might be found in a modern dance wear closet, the tighter and more fitted the better for most of the disco queens.

Anything satin that could reflect the lights and mirrors was popular for men and women as were the platform shoes to extend the length of the leg and make the disco dancer appear longer and leaner. Disco was an era of sexy movement and high fashion statements, remembering those key points in planning your disco costume is sure to lead you in the right direct.

A creative and fun idea for a costume party is to come dressed as a bubble bath. This costume is comprised of easy to locate, inexpensive supplies and you could win the prize for the most unique costume.

Minimal Supplies Make A Bubble Bath Costume Easy To Create

The basic requirement for this costume is 35 9-inch round balloons (70 if you want balloons to cover your entire upper body), small safety pins, a white long sleeved sweatshirt or a long sleeved skin colored sweatshirt, white pants and if you choose a rubber ducky, shower cap and a scrubbing brush or other tub style accessory.

After locating all the accessories for your costume, you really don’t have anything more to do for preparation until the day of the party. As the party time draws near, you will want to blow up all of the balloons. Allow enough time for this activity, as these balloons are the key component of your costume.

Once the balloons are all blown up, use the tiny safety pins to attach each of the balloons to the shirt at the low-knotted end of the balloon. Make sure that the entire surface of the front of the shirt is covered with balloons. Many people choose not to put balloons on the backside of the shirt so that they can sit down while wearing the costume. I personally bought double to balloons and covered the entire shirt, front and back. I then transported my costume top to the party and put it on over a tank top when I arrived.

The finishing touches include a shower cap or towel tied around your head, a scrubbing brush and a rubber ducky. You can attach the rubber ducky to one of the balloons with a piece of tape or carry it with you. If you want additional props, wear slippers or flip-flops and carry an oversized bath towel.

Don’t be surprised if you are the only bubble bath at the party. This unique Halloween idea is almost always a prize winner for the most original costume. A word of warning, as the party get rowdier, your costume will become the most likely to get popped.

Dressing up and becoming someone else for a night can be a fun and exciting adventure. Choosing a Halloween costume that fits your imagination and style makes the entire Halloween party process an exciting event that will be memorable for years to come.

Depending on the party, the Halloween costume selected can be part of a theme, an individual choice or as a couple. If the party has a theme, the costume should match. There are parties that reflect a certain decade style, like a fifties party or seventies party. These would require discovering what type of dress was popular during that decade. Whenever decade parties are mentioned, immediate Halloween costume ideas pop into our heads. Poodle skirts, penny loafers and pigtails for the fifties, disco era clothes for the seventies. Decade parties are fun to plan and guests have a great time researching appropriate dress.

Halloween costume ideas for couples are as numerous as they can be. Imitating famous celebrity couples is a popular idea. Also, couples from famous movies are another fun idea that will be immediately recognized.

Swapping gender roles can also be fun; by having the woman dress up as the male counterpart of a famous couple and the male as the female partner. This can be an interesting choice for couples and making fun of the celebrity couple.

Another suggestion for a Halloween costume, could be the very famous monsters that have been depicted in movies; Frankenstein, Dracula or the Werewolf. These are all recognizable characters and to do them as a couple is a unique idea.

Anything from the Wizard of Oz is always a popular choice. All of the characters from that movie are well known and enjoyable to dress up as. Discovering a Halloween costume for a character from the Wizard of Oz is always easy. This is so popular that these costumes can be found almost anywhere and they can also be hand made, if you’re crafty enough.

Selecting a Halloween costume is a fun process to begin getting into the spirit of Halloween. Use the category links on this website for ideas or visit our Facebook Couples Costumes fan page for more ideas.

If you want to throw a great Halloween costume party, there are some things you want to take into consideration as you get started. If you’re planning on a large party, you’ll want to make sure you follow these steps so that your costume party goes off perfectly.

1. Planning the Party
Like any other party, the first step to a great costume party is planning. How many people are you going to invite? Where is the party going to be held? Are you going to have food and drinks? Will there be games and prizes? Do you need a secondary location if you have to move the party later that night?

When you send invitations to your guest list, make sure to include the RSVP on the invitations. It still won’t be an exact count but at least you’ll have an idea so that you can plan better. If it’s a themed party, don’t forget to add that to the invitation.

If your guests are worried about wearing the same costume as someone else, start a list to keep track of everyone’s costumes. Prizes for best costume, original costume, funniest costume, etc. are always a great way to get everyone to come up with great costume ideas for your party.

2. Getting Ready for the Party
Next you want to start actually preparing and setting up for the costume party. If you’re holding it at your house, for instance, you’ll want to decorate the house with ribbons, glitter, balloons, and whatever else you like.

If you’re planning a themed party, such as a decade party or monster ball, then obviously you’re going to want to decorate around that theme. An 80’s party may want to include posters of Madonna or Bruce Springsteen. For a monster ball, you may want to have lots of black lights and other spooky decorations.

3. Staying With Your Budget
Having a budget for the party beforehand is critical. You want to make sure that you stick to your budget as closely as possible. You want to throw a great party that everyone will love and remember, but you don’t want to go overboard and spend more than you have. It’s just one night.
The bottom line is have fun, enjoy yourself, invite family and friends so you can be with the ones you love!

Every year, parents indulge their children around Halloween—and it’s not just the candy. While many treats are a part of this fun holiday, many parents will go to great lengths to endure that their child has a fabulous Halloween costume. Many times, this means hunting for a particular character costume in the local costume stores.

Other times, this means making the costume completely from scratch! One of the easiest costumes to make from scratch is a chicken costume. A chicken costume is a great option, especially for small children who are unsure of what the want to be from Halloween. You’ll both be happy with the end result, and you’ll be glad for the simplicity and inexpensiveness of the project!

Create A Chicken Costume Step By Step

Creating a chicken costume is extremely easy. All you need to create the costume is: 7 inches of medium white feather boas, 4 medium white feather boas, 2 white long sleeved leotards, yellow tights, polyester fiberfill stuffing, canvas shoes, yellow latex gloves, a white baseball hat, two 8 by 12 inch orange felt pieces, two large wiggly eyes, hot glue gun, safety pins, and a black marker.

To begin, place one of your two leotards inside the other, being sure to match up the arm and leg openings. Sew the legs together, and then stuff the fiberfill stuffing between the two leotards. Match up the neck openings and sew them together. This will be the body part of the chicken costume.

To create the head, cut two large triangles from the orange felt and sandwich them on either side of the hat brim, gluing them down securely. Glue down two black buttons for nostrils, two googly eyes for the chicken’s eyes, and a red boa “comb” on top of the hat.

The feet can be created by stuffing the latex gloves with fiberfill, and then placing them palm down and inserting the child’s shoe in each glove. Then pull the gloves up tightly and secure with glue to the shoes.

To assemble the costume, have your child wear the leotard. Wrap the white feather boas all around the shoulders, arms, and body, and secure the boas with safety pins. Put on the hat to complete the costume.

Quite The Character

Creating costumes from scratch is incredibly rewarding because the end result is so incredible, and you keep the knowledge that you made the costume yourself. This chicken costume will be sure to draw complements from all of your family, friends, and neighbors.

There are only really a few things that you will need to make your cat costume and they are: 1 black sweatshirt, 1 pair of black sweatpants, a black headband, 1 yard of black felt, 1 yard of white felt, 1 yard of fake fur trim, face paints, 1 square of pink felt, pillow stuffing, and fabric glue.

Making Your Cat Costume

Now comes the actual construction process of your costume. First you want to start by cutting out a circle of white felt for the stomach of your cat, and you simply want to measure how big the stomach of your sweatshirt is, and then cut out the white felt circle, and then glue it on with a bit of fabric glue.

Now you need to add a tail to the seat of your black pants, and you can cut it out of a long piece of black felt that is about 6 inches wide and 2 feet long. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, and then use your fabric glue to seal the long edge as well as one of the short ends. Turn the cat tail inside out, and then stuff it with some of the cotton fluff.

Next you want to fold in the open edges and seal them shut with some more glue, then to create ears for the costume, you want to cut out two large triangles from the black felt, and cut out two slightly smaller triangles from the pink felt for the insides of the ears. Glue the pink felt pieces in the middle of the black felt pieces and you are finished the ears.

Now to finish the cat costume all off you need to cut out 5 pieces of fluffy fake fur, and two of these pieces should wrap around the wrists of the sleeves, two should wrap around the ankles of the pants, and the last should stick right out of the costume so that it can be clearly seen. That is all there is to it.

Costume parties allow for us to dress up and become someone else for an evening. Selecting a costume that will feature a new persona can take some thought and discovering what will work best for you. It may be fun to become something different for the evening, what about a flapper, a nun or even a belly dance costume for the evening?

Flapper, Nun And Belly Dance Costume

With these selections, a simple costume can be created. First, it may be a good idea to check out the local hobby or craft store. Finding some patterns for costumes can give a consumer a good idea of what may be needed in the costume. If sewing is an option, this will give you everything you need to create the correct flapper, nun or belly dance costume.

The flapper is of course the roaring twenties gal. A short and straight dress that is not too tight is a perfect choice for the flapper gal. Long beaded necklaces can be added to give more fun to the costume. Place a headband around the head and maybe add some long gloves. This flapper costume is easy and can be quickly put together.

The belly dance costume, may involve a little more creativity. Finding a pattern to follow is probably the best choice. The top of a belly dance costume is like a bra. This needs to be decorated, possibly with sequence. A small vest can be worn over the bra in this belly dance costume. The skirt needs to be below the belly button. There needs to be several layers of skirts in order for the skirt to be flowing for a belly dance costume. A headband across the forehead or a scarf across the lower part of the face completes the belly dance costume.

The nun costume may possibly be the easiest. A one piece tunic is needed, and it should be made in black material. Black material with white across the front is used for the head covering. Make sure to cover all of the hair. Again, a store that carries patterns will have a picture of this simple costume to give a demonstration of the look that needs to be achieved.

Making your own costume for a party can really showcase your own personality. These choices flapper, belly dance costume and the nun are all fun and fairly simple to re-create. The costumes themselves are usually very comfortable and can be worn again.
